This project extended efforts of the three previous AVSI WAIC projects
and ensured the allocation of protected spectrum for wireless avionics systems obtained at WRC 2015.
The WAIC team continued to usher through the approval process all documents from previous projects that were submitted to the International Telecommunications Union (ITU-R). As a result, they were positioned to support promotion of Agenda Item (AI) 1.17 at WRC-15 that ultimately resulted in allocation of protected spectrum for wireless avionics systems.
The WAIC team intensified regulatory/lobbying effort. They attended meetings of ITU-R working groups and engaged their members. They also attended meetings of International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and regional telecommunications organization, such as APT, CITEL and CEPT and built wide support for the new WAIC allocation.
